Parental involvement is vital to the success of educating your child. We welcome parents taking an active role in your child's Dawson experience. Our teachers, administrators, principal, assistant principal, counselor, and librarian always welcome your involvement. All are just a phone call away!
The most important item we ask for your help involves our campus designation as a No Place for Hate.
This initiative of the Anti-Defamation League is designed for elementary schools to promote anti-bias concepts and to create safe, inclusive and respectful classroom and school environments.
Dawson achieved our No Place for Hate designation in 2011, the year AISD introduced it.
This designation is achieved by teaching concepts and signing a Resolution of Respect encouraging students to honor the principles of diversity, freedom, and equality. Students learn to reflect on these values in classroom lessons and school-wide activities.
Students in 4th and 5th grade classes are selected to take on leadership roles in a student coalition supporting campus-wide activities.
Three No Place for Hate activities are creatively selected each year. These differ from service activities, specifically focusing on promoting anti-bias, inclusiveness, and respect.
As part of being a No Place for Hate school, Dawson staff is trained in the Welcoming Schools approach, supporting engagement in conversations about embracing family diversity, creating gender-inclusive environments, and preventing bias-based bullying and name calling.
